I am a horrible offender of the 3’oclock munchies. I don’t know if this was a magical time that my mom fed me as a baby or if I just have exceptionally weak willpower. Whether it is the weather, maternal upbringing or just plain boredom, the craving for something salty (or sweet, I don’t discriminate) always hits.
I have given up on kicking this craving, since I have tried so many times unsuccessfully, and decided to just be prepared. Rather than hit the break room for some type of sugar filled marshmallow cake or cheddar coated cracker, I whip out my new favorite salty sweet treat: Chewy Berry Chocolate Oatmeal Bars.
Oatmeal Bars for life
Obviously oatmeal bars are no new concept as there is an entire aisle in the grocery store devoted solely to the individually-packed oat-filled nibbles. Have you noticed the price tag though?
Heaven forbid we take a visit to the organic section…
Although you won’t be taking out a second mortgage, it can add up! Especially when oatmeal bars are such a simple snack to make at home. Not to mention, you probably already have most of the ingredients in your cupboards already! A little chopping, a quick toss of the ingredients and a little baking separates you from salty sweet chewy oatmeal bars .
Remember, you can always mix up the ingredients and make the recipe work for you! No raisins handy? Double the cranberries. All out of coconut chips? No problem, you will still love these bars. Keeping things extra healthy? Skip the mini chocolate chips and let the cranberries shine through! Use this recipe as a foundation and get busy switching up the toppings!
Be the boss of your munch-cravings!
